About the Item
This 25.98" x 25.59" acrylic painting on faux suede is by Ukrainian artist, Yulaiyla Grays Larru. The painting demonstrates an application of layering and tonal gradation, producing a highly dimensional representation of a bighorn sheep. The artist employs controlled brushwork to develop the surface texture of the horns, where visible striations and subtle impasto techniques emulate the rough, organic growth patterns characteristic of the species. The background is a uniform, yet richly textured blue. The artist achieves a nuanced surface tension that allows the figure to stand out while maintaining an integrated color harmony. The interplay of foreground and background follows perceptual color theories, where cool hues recede and warm tones emerge, optimizing spatial depth within the composition.
"My childhood was filled with adventures, travels and parental support. From an early age, my inclination for drawing manifested. However, in our small town near the capital of Ukraine, there were no specialized educational institutions, so I didn't have the opportunity for specialized art education. During my childhood, I spent a lot of time with watercolors, appreciating their transparency. In my youth, I independently transitioned to oil paints and canvas. In 2010, I started painting on suede, then switched to artificial suede out of spiritual connection to animals. All my paintings were successfully sold among acquaintances. They can be found in private collections in the USA, Canada, Kazakhstan, Turkey, Poland, the Czech Republic, Italy, Spain and Germany. In 2019, during quarantine, I decided to showcase my work for the first time at an exhibition in Kyiv, Ukraine. Having gained new experiences, new acquaintances, new motivations - I no longer stop.
War in Ukraine and its impact on me have been profoundly significant. Living in a region marked by conflict, I witnessed firsthand the consequences of destruction and chaos it brings. Persistent fear, uncertainty and losses have left a mark on my psyche, shaping my outlook on life and the world around me. The scars of war run deep, leaving behind a legacy of trauma. War has taught me to value peace, resilience and the strength of the human spirit. Despite the hardships, I have resolved to contribute to building a better future, where conflicts are replaced by harmony and understanding."

Conquest,
by Vojna Bastovanovic Casteel, Oil on Canvas, 2021
Located in Oklahoma City, OK
"Conquest," by Vojna Bastovanovic Casteel, is a framed oil on canvas painting from 2021 that features an image of a running horse. Rendered in cool values of blue, purple, white, gray, the painting also features accents of warmer colors like pinks, tan and cream. The cropped view of the running horse accentuates its impression speed, while the emphasis on the rendering of its muscles heightens the physicality of the animal. The urgency of the scene is accentuated by what appears to be an approaching storm.
Award winning Serbian artist Vojna Bastovanovic Casteel is known for artworks with natural elements, like people and animals (usually wild tigers and lions), that show selective flashes of realism often distorted by an abstract background.
In her professional career, she has created hundreds of square meters of portrait mosaics for public spaces and large churches...

Worship of the Moon,
by Katrina Dordevic, Acrylic on Canvas Painting
By Katarina Dordevic
Located in Oklahoma City, OK
This 38" x 26.25" acrylic on canvas painting by artist Katarina Dordevic refers to the transformation of the form and visual integrity, the conversion of samples displaced from the authentic temporal and spatial frames. The objects in the painting cannot be directly linked to the content of the literary origin or motif. These segments are quotes of descriptive elements from prehistoric votive sculptures of idols (the Paleolithic culture from Lepenski vir, the oldest urban settlement in Europe, situated at the banks of the Danube river, around 8,5 millennia old. They were shaped as unique anthropomorphic entities that represented presumably river deities. The meanings that were given to these symbolical sculptures changed over time, but the strange expression of the stone idols...
