About the Item

Anne Sargent Walker’s "Two Very Tall Pines" is a 40 x 30 x 1.5 inch oil painting done in softs blue greens, gold and pink. Two very tall pine trees stand next to one another almost in silhouette, each a testament to age and character. A lush painterly sky in muted pinks appears behind them, with just a hint of forest in the distance at the bottom of the painting, and just a peak of blue sky in the upper corner. The painting is unframed on stretched canvas and is signed lower right. Anne Sargent Walker’s semi-abstract paintings on canvas or panel combine oil, acrylic and often collage to explore the beauty and fragility of the natural world and our complicated relationship to it. Her colorful images often feature birds and other animals in a naturalistic setting whose surfaces appear to peel or degrade revealing underlying layers of paint, pattern or collage. Whether the paintings are quite realistic or done with pop-like silhouettes in flat colors, Walker strives for beauty in her paintings. Her use of hot colors and fragmented, degraded, or dripping surfaces, however, suggest loss: of habitat, species, and even of ourselves. She is represented by Fountain Street Gallery based in Boston, MA.

This is one of those painting that sat half-finished in my studio. I new that it needed to get done, but at the time, I just thought it better to let it sit. Last year, after exploring tonalism painting, I wanted to finish this one with a similar feeling. Tonalism is a very simplistic, moody and soft painting. I am very pleased with the way those tall pines...

Pine Trees in the Summer 16" x 12" Italian artist Florence Realism Landscape
By Barbara Castrucci
Located in Houston, TX
Pine Trees in the Summer 16" x 12" is an oil painting done in the style of Realism in the artist studio in Florence, Italy. It has a custom frame made in Florence by a master framer. These are the small landscapes Barbara Castrucci painted near her home in Tuscany. Tuscany is a region in central Italy. Its capital, Florence, is home to some of the world’s most recognizable Renaissance art and architecture, including Michelangelo’s "David" statue, Botticelli’s works in the Uffizi Gallery and the Duomo basilica. Its diverse natural landscape encompasses the rugged Apennine Mountains, the island of Elba’s beaches on the Tyrrhenian Sea and Chianti’s olive groves and vineyards. Bio As the daughter of a sculptor, I had my first encounter with art as a child observing my father draw and sculpt. During my high school years I frequented many of the Florentine workshops and studios which inspired me to become a painter. While still in high school I enrolled in old master painting courses devoting my artistic development to discovering and learning the techniques of the great art of the Flemish, Spanish and Italian masters of the 17th century. After graduating from high school I studied the 19th century academic tradition of drawing and painting with Rebecca Harp, Marc Dalessio and Leo Mancini Hresko...
