Portrait of a Man with an Orange Jacket in Oil on Canvas
Contemporary portrait by Alfred Waterman (American, 1922-2012). A young man sits for a portrait, wearing a bright orange and white jacket. He is looking up and to the right, with hands crossed. This piece is skillfully painted, with broad, confident strokes adding just enough detail and yet still remaining solidly impressionist.
Signed and dated "Waterman 94" in the lower left corner.

Alfred Waterman (American, 1922-2012) was an artist from Portland, Maine. He graduated from Portland High School as well as the Portland School of Fine Arts from which he received the prestigious 'Baxter Award.' After serving in the US Army Air Corp., Waterman went on to become a sketch artist for the Westbrook Police Department. His works have been displayed around the country including galleries such as the A.M. Laing Gallery, Ray Stock Galleries, Little Sebago Gallery, and the Main Street Studio in Hurricane, W.Va. Waterman also opened his own studio for art instruction called 'Atelier.' He participated in several art showings and exhibits over the years - including the Congress Sidewalk Art Festival - winning many prizes for his works. Waterman’s son, Michael (b. 1947), would also go on to become an accomplished artist.
