The light and the shadows enhance the transparencies of the glass and the water of this well-crafted realistic and modern composition that perfectly justifies these words of the author: “I am interested in exploring concepts such as fragility, time, and the inevitability of the fact that we are going to disappear . I use objects that are visually poetic for me, and, very especially, those that I can transform by the dramatic action of light in space”.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Álvaro Toledo (Madrid - SPAIN, 1965) is a painter and engraver. Graduated in Fine Arts in 1988 from the Complutense University of Madrid, his work has received various important awards such as the Penagos Prize, and is part of public and private collections: Mapfre-Vida Foundation, Complutense University, Acciona, Endesa, Ibercaja or the Museum of Contemporary Spanish Engraving in Marbella.
His work demonstrates a solid interest and fascination with light and has mainly captured interior scenes and still life, and exteriors dominated by architecture. He has exhibited collectively in different exhibitions dedicated to the current Spanish realist school, held in Madrid, Marbella, Segovia, The Hague, Paris, Geneva or Chicago, as well as individually in Pamplona, Zaragoza, León, Murcia, Oviedo, Madrid. He has attended several national and international art fairs (Art Chicago – EEUU, ARCO – Spain, Lineart Gent - Belgium).

The fruits contained in an overturned basket are scattered on the table around an old bottle covered with esparto grass, giving a rich note of color and contrasting textures.
The warm light projected on the entire scene, the roughness of the back wall with its shadows, and the brightness of the horizontal plane of the table, constitute the environment of this delicate composition.
Juan Carlos Ospina Ortiz (Colombia 1963), practices realistic figuration with themes of clear Spanish influence. The artist settled in Andalusia (Spain), where, searching for his roots, he immersed himself in the music, folklore, and traditions of that country.
In his timeless classic still lifes, we can see the influence of the great masters of 17th century Spanish painting such as Zurbarán and Sanchez Cotán.
