About the Item

"La Blockchain" is a symbolist oil painting on canvas by Andrée Bars. In this carefully composed still life, the artist translates a contemporary technological concept into a poetic language of everyday objects, making visible the invisible mechanisms of connection, verification, and trust. On a wooden surface, blocks of soap stand like solid units, aligned and repeated. Chosen for their apparent purity yet inherent impermanence, they evoke units of value or state — elements that appear stable while remaining subject to transformation over time. Their smooth surfaces suggest reliability, while their material nature reminds us that nothing is immutable. These blocks are held together by wooden clothespins and a delicate thread. Simple, domestic tools, the clothespins become symbols of consensus: they do not fuse the elements, but hold them in place through balanced pressure. The system functions not because of a central force, but because each connection agrees to hold. At the center of the composition lies an ancient oval bronze mirror, richly ornamented and turned on its side. Still reflective, it does not show what faces the viewer; instead, it reveals the hidden backs of the soap blocks. The mirror thus becomes a device of indirect verification — a way of seeing not appearances, but what lies behind them, echoing the logic of distributed trust rather than direct authority. Behind the mirror, a slightly crumpled sheet of paper bears the faint drawing of a chain. Fragile, textured, and imperfect, it evokes a register — not engraved in stone, but recorded on a vulnerable surface. The chain is sketched rather than forged, suggesting that the system exists as an agreement, continuously written and rewritten, rather than as a fixed and immutable object. "La Blockchain" is not a literal illustration, but a symbolic meditation. By transforming familiar objects into carriers of abstract meaning, Andrée Bars bridges the world of the tangible and the digital. She reminds us that even the most advanced systems ultimately rely on simple principles: coherence between elements, verification through relation, and trust built link by link. Between material realism and conceptual clarity, the painting invites us to reconsider how the contemporary world is structured — not through spectacle, but through quiet, precise connections that hold only as long as each part continues to play its role. Andrée Bars is a French painter who trained for four years under the American hyperrealist master Ted Seth Jacobs, himself heir to the techniques of 19th-century academicians. Through this rigorous apprenticeship, she learned the art of painting in its purest tradition — a mastery she continues to uphold today. Each of her works is built upon at least three layers of oil paint, following the methods of the old masters. Her technical precision, however, serves not mere imitation but imagination: she applies the discipline of hyperrealism to surrealist ideas. Though her paintings reproduce reality with extreme fidelity, they cannot be confined to the simple labels of hyperrealism or trompe-l’œil. Her art distinguishes itself by a mysterious softness, a subtle poetic aura that gently captivates the viewer.

"Each Has Its Destiny", Snails in Nature Symboliste Oil Painting
By Andrée Bars
Located in Clermont-Ferrand, Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes
Titled "Each Has Its Destiny," this charming symbolist oil painting on canvas by Andrée Bars offers a serene and contemplative view of nature's delicate balance. The composition features three snails navigating their way across a barbed wire fence, set against a backdrop of a lush meadow under a clear blue sky. The snails, each with distinctively colored shells – one brown, one dark, and one golden – symbolize individuality and the unique paths each creature takes in life. The barbed wire, often associated with barriers and challenges, contrasts with the gentle and slow movement of the snails, suggesting a journey filled with obstacles yet approached with patience and determination. The bamboo stalks and various wildflowers in the background add a touch of whimsy and natural beauty, emphasizing the coexistence of fragility and resilience in the natural world. The delicate rendering of the leaves and flowers, along with the meticulous depiction of the snails, showcases the artist's attention to detail and mastery of texture. The painting's soft lighting and subtle color palette evoke a sense of calm and introspection, inviting the viewer to reflect on the theme of destiny and the slow but steady progress each individual makes despite life's challenges. "Each Has Its Destiny" is a poignant reminder of perseverance and the unique journey every being undertakes, rendered with elegance and sensitivity. Andrée Bars is a French painter. Having been strictly trained for 4 years by the American hyper-realist painter Mr. Ted Seth Jacobs, who himself inherited 19th century masters’ skills from his own professor, Andrée Bars learned the profession of painting in its purest tradition. "We Lost the North", Wood Crack, Compass, Money, Flower, Symbolism Oil Painting
By Andrée Bars
Located in Clermont-Ferrand, Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes
Named « We lost the North », this symbolist oil painting on canvas represents a great fracture symbolized by a crack in the wood in its middle. Fracture between the world of the finance and the nature. The trap is to always quantify with money and not to take into account the insects and the plants, our planet. Hence the compass on the side of nature, because according to the French expression, "we have lost the North", which means that we do not know where we are going. Andrée Bars is a French painter.
