About the Item
Sistah
Acrylic on wood panel
36 × 36 inches 91 × 91 cm
Anne Siems’ Sistah is a bold and luminous portrait celebrating identity, empowerment, and self-definition. Set against a radiant golden-yellow background, the central figure meets the viewer with an unguarded, penetrating gaze. The warm palette and soft floral abstractions behind her create an atmosphere of vitality and inner light - a striking contrast to the cool precision of the tattoos adorning her face and neck.
Delicate yet assertive, the ink-like illustrations include botanical motifs, celestial symbols, insects, and the words “Sistah” and “Rebel.” These markings function not as adornment but as declarations — visual affirmations of personal narrative, heritage, and strength. Siems’ technique, blending classical portrait sensibilities with contemporary symbolism, transforms the figure into a modern guardian of truth and autonomy.
Sistah stands as a celebration of selfhood: fierce, introspective, and beautifully grounded. This work exemplifies Siems’ ability to merge intimacy with power, creating portraits that are both timeless and unmistakably modern. A dynamic addition to any collection focused on contemporary figurative painting, feminist expression, and identity-driven art.

Artist Statement
I was born in Berlin, Germany. From 1969 to 1971 I lived near Buenos Aires, Argentina.
My first extended stay in the US was as an exchange student in 1986. Then in 1991,
after finishing my MFA in Berlin, I moved to Seattle, WA. My work has moved from semi-abstract, room-filling plant and insect drawings, to
paintings of detailed botanical and anatomical imagery on waxed paper bags, to
my current work of young women and children on wood panel. The thread here
being my fascination and awe of life on this planet and the connectedness I feel to
all, but find hard to describe in words. In the process of finding healing for chronic pain and fatigue (I was diagnosed with
Fibromyalgia eight years ago.), I have deepened my interest in shamanism,
ceremony and the deep nurturing that nature provides. In my work I try to be as honest and true to myself as I can without losing
discernment. I aim as best as I can for sincerity, intimacy and openness in my
paintings. In them I find the beginning of something that touches the universal. It is a
place where others can touch the magic and sensuality that gets exposed in the
process. I think deep inside of us lives a longing to experience a sense of 'falling in love'. A
visceral experience without words. For that to happen, this place needs to be free of
irony, social commentary or conceptual humor. I am looking in my work to find the
point in which we feel a certain ache – the ache caused by the knowledge that life
is full of light and dark, sacred and profane, beauty and ugliness, life and death. Education
Master of Fine Arts, Hochschule der Kunste, Berlin, Germany 1991
Fulbright Scholarship, University of the South, Sewanee, TN, 1986-87

Gold II - Original Sally K Figurative Artwork
By Sally K
Located in Los Angeles, CA
Gazing at Lebanese American artist Sally K's floral portrait is consuming and empowering. Inspired by strong, feminine women, she creates pop-realistic paintings that speak to the energetic female experience; one of individuality and inherent strength in femininity. There are endless floral arrangements capping the mysterious visages of beautiful women, capturing attention through a celebration of floral abstraction and wild, fanciful coloration. Lavish in application and luxurious in composition, Sally K.'s work is inspired by pop art, culture, and fashion.
This original 10-inch high by 8-inch wide acrylic on canvas board painting is signed on the front and back. It is unframed and requires framing for display. Convenient local Los Angeles area shipping. Affordable U.S. and global shipping also available. Provenance: Artspace Warehouse. A certificate of authenticity issued by the art gallery is included.
Sally K was born in Ohio following her family’s emigration from Lebanon. Shortly after her birth, her family moved to Saudi Arabia, where she stayed until she was 14. Sally attended high school and college in Beirut, where she graduated with a BA in Fine Arts with distinction from the Lebanese American University of Beirut. In 2013, Sally and her family moved back to the United States and she now paints out of her studio in California.
The focus of Sally’s portraits is contemporary women. Her style merges characteristics of abstract expressionism with realism and portrait painting to convey not just the beauty of women, but their confidence and strength as well. They are alluring, flirtatious, and demure with an inspiring femininity that Sally describes as the “sensuality, independence, and confidence you see in strong women.”
Sally’s portraits of women are intensely personal. “The women I paint are an extension of me, of what I feel, how I process my surroundings, my thoughts, my anger, my pleasure. They’re the confident strong women that I strive to be. Sometimes tough and daring, sometimes shy and reserved, but always self-assured and determined; they represent what captivates me in other women; the qualities I admire, and strengths that I strive to gain.”
Sally draws inspiration from photography, pop culture and fashion as well as artists ranging from the pop art of Willem de Kooning and Jackson Pollock to the gilded florals and figures of Gustav Klimt. Her highly regarded paintings have been featured in group and solo shows in Beirut, Dubai, Italy, and the USA. Notable collectors include Jesse McCartney and Kelly Clarkson.
