Cupid preparing his Bow to strike Pluto (after Van Dyck), English School, after Sir Anthony Van Dyck (Antwerp 1599 - London 1641), c1674/75. A full length view of fair-haired cupid standing on a sea shore with shells at his feet on the beach whilst he plucks his arrow, looking skywards. The moment depicted is prior to Pluto falling in love with Proserpina who he later abducts to the underworld. It is after the original painting that was in the in the Thyssen-Bentinck collection.
