Questo piccolo dipinto (olio su tela, 35 x 24,5 cm; con cornice in legno dorata 38,5 x 28 cm) raffigura un episodio della vita di san Pietro come riportato dagli Atti degli Apostoli, ovvero la guarigione miracolosa di Enea, paralitico dall'età di 8 anni, avvenuta nella città di Lidda.
Il dipinto non è firmato ma per motivi stilistici può essere attribuito alla bella mano del pittore svizzero-italiano Antonio Ciseri, con la cui arte si trovano somiglianze sia nella scelta della tavolozza polverosa e calda che nelle figure (In particolare, san Pietro ricorda il Ponzio Pilato dell'Ecce Homo).
L'artista, nato nel Canton Ticino, 1833 egli si trasferì a Firenze dove fu posto immediatamente ad apprendere il disegno privatamente presso il suo primo maestro, che probabilmente fu Emesto Buonaiuti, e rimase sempre estraneo all'attività della bottega fiorentina del padre e del nonno paterno Francesco Antonio, decoratori di interni. Nel 1834 venne ammesso all'Accademia di belle arti di Firenze iniziando il suo corso di studi sotto la direzione di Niccola Benvenuti.
Gli esordi del C., quali risultano documentabili dalle opere note e dagli stessi giudizi della critica contemporanea, sono caratterizzati da una cultura pittorica nettamente orientata nei temi, nella ricchezza cromatica e nella ricerca di una tenera naturalezza epidermica, verso il ricco e sensuale pittoricismo del Bezzuoli, rappresentante principale a Firenze di una tendenza che in quegli anni era fortemente avversata dalla critica toscana di orientamento purista perché giudicata troppo "realistica" e sostanzialmente estranea ai rigorosi fini etici e formali propugnati da artisti e critici appartenenti a quella linea culturale.
