About the Item

This artwork is sold framed. Available for presale. Please note: this artwork will be exhibited during Ashvin Harrison’s solo show (Nov 29–Dec 7) and can be collected or shipped after the exhibition. This powerful piece was showcased during a special event in the USA in 2024. After returning to the artist’s private studio, additional layers of gold shimmer were delicately applied to the stethoscope — enhancing its significance as a symbol of healing and reverence. The original painting was officially released for collector acquisition in February 2025, and is now available to own. Medical Monday is a tribute to the extraordinary dedication and resilience of medical professionals — a visual symphony born from their stories, their emotional weight, and their unwavering commitment to others. Created using coconut charcoal, acrylics, and oil paint on fine art rolled canvas, the work fuses fine art realism, expressionism, and abstract techniques into one emotionally charged moment. A unique, made-up technique with dry coconut charcoal and paintbrushes forms the foundational structure of the figure — a medical practitioner mid-thought, mid-duty, mid-universe. Explosions of acrylic paint in cosmic motion rush around the composition, with both thin lines and thick impasto splashes painting a vibrant spectrum that speaks of life, hope, and humanity. At the very heart of the artwork, a small yet profound detail: the planets of our solar system, each rendered in accurate colour, suggesting that within the healer’s mind exists an entire universe — one they strive to balance and protect. To emphasise the importance of care and connection, a luminous gold shimmer has been added to the stethoscope — a beacon of life-saving touch. In front of the figure’s head area, a radiant burst of green, blue, purple, and crystal-clear sparkles explodes outward, representing the emotional and psychological impact of service in the medical field. White oil paint is carefully placed to lift and highlight areas of detail and realism throughout the work. The painting is created on fine art rolled canvas, layered with five coats of soft white gesso, and sealed using museum-grade charcoal and acrylic fixatives. It comes hand-signed on the front in archival art ink, with a full signature and date on the reverse, and includes a certificate of authenticity.

Healer Also Needs Healing II
Located in Ibadan, Oyo
"Healer Also Needs Healing" is an evocative portrait that invites viewers to explore the inner world of the subject. The woman depicted exudes a sense of strength and serenity, her eyes gazing into the distance with a mix of determination and vulnerability. Ganiyat masterfully captures the delicate balance between the external projection of strength and the internal longing for healing. The woman's visage is rendered in exquisite detail, with every brushstroke contributing to the depth of her character. Her features reflect a life well-lived, marked by experiences both joyful and painful. The artist employs a subtle yet profound use of color, emphasizing warm and earthy tones that evoke a sense of grounding and connection to nature. The intricate interplay of light and shadow further adds dimension and intensity to the subject's expression. Abdulazeez's artwork conveys a powerful message about the often-overlooked struggles faced by those in nurturing roles. By focusing on a healer, traditionally associated with strength and selflessness, the artist challenges the notion that caregivers are immune to their own wounds. The title itself, "Healer Also Needs Healing," emphasizes this essential truth and serves as a reminder to viewers to extend compassion to those who are constantly providing it to others. The woman's serene yet contemplative expression embodies the dichotomy between the need to heal and the strength required to carry the burden of others' pain. Her distant gaze hints at an internal world, perhaps filled with personal battles, memories, or unvoiced emotions. It invites viewers to reflect on the toll that caregiving roles can take on individuals, urging them to recognize the importance of self-care and nurturing their own well-being. Moreover, the subtle details within the artwork contribute to its symbolic depth. The presence of natural elements, such as flowers or leaves entwined in the woman's hair or adorning her attire, suggests a connection to the healing power of nature and the cycle of growth and renewal. These elements symbolize the potential for personal transformation and rejuvenation, highlighting the importance of self-nurture for healers and caregivers alike. Ganiyat Abdulazeez...
