This exuberant portrait of a woman approaches figuration through a vocabulary of riotous color, gestural rhythm, and emotive distortion. The image is anchored by a commanding face—its features sculpted by thick, almost volcanic strokes of pigment—while an explosive cascade of yellow hair expands outward, giving the composition its dynamic crescendo. The figure does not sit passively within the frame; she pushes against it, visually occupying more space than her body should logically allow. This exaggeration gives the subject a forceful presence, as though rising from within the surface of the canvas.
The palette is unrestrained and confidently experimental. Yellow dominates the hair, its neon vibrancy echoing the visual lexicon of graffiti and street art. It pulls the viewer’s eye outward, only to be dragged back to the face through contrasting patches of cyan, coral pink, and whitened highlights that mimic the irregularity of bruises, blush, and heat. Rather than reproducing natural skin tones, the painting treats the face as an emotional paper, paint becomes sensation, and color becomes temperament. The pinks radiate warmth or agitation; icy blues cut into the eyes, suggesting tension or alertness; touches of black linework, scratched into the surface, bring sharpness and urgency.
The artist’s use of splatter is not decorative. It breaks the illusion of polish, allowing the raw physicality of painting to assert itself. These erratic marks surrounding the head create a spatial halo, but instead of spiritual serenity, they evoke chaotic energy—an aura defined by movement and noise. The subject becomes less a portrait of a specific individual than a psychological emblem, a figure forged from impulse rather than identity.
While the model’s lips and gaze are carefully delineated, the surrounding textures challenge conventional beauty. The mouth, with its pronounced vertical strokes, asserts sensuality but also ambiguity. The eyes, intensely detailed, hold a magnetism that contrasts with the rest of the expressive disarray. They are the still point in the storm, witnessing rather than dissolving in the chaos. This interplay between articulate detail and painterly freedom forms the emotional tension of the piece.
Ultimately, the portrait lives between portraiture and abstraction, between allure and rupture. Beauty here is not polished; it is fragmented, electrified, and confrontational. The subject seems to emerge from a world of splashes, stains, and neon light, not fully formed, but intensely present. She embodies a wild kind of identity, one built from energy rather than appearance. The painting does not describe her; it unleashes her.

Bazévian Delacapucinière is a French artist whose works have appeared in numerous exhibitions and publications in Europe, America and Asia.
My work focuses on oxidized images from the collective memory of the 20th century. According to Aristotle, from memory to reminiscence, it is necessary to reactivate images through the imagination to know their sensitive power. Consequently, the gaze (of portraits) becomes power, texture becomes light. Finally, this transposition of images becomes my individual memory.
