About the Item

Ps 240 Summer in La Baule Vincent Van Gogh In this luminous and poetic work, it's a powerful layer of meaning through the woman’s swimsuit, which echoes Vincent van Gogh’s Starry Night. The swirling blue patterns and golden accents recall the celestial movement of Van Gogh’s brushwork, transforming the garment into a living fragment of art history. By incorporating this iconic motif, I tried to create a bridge between the worlds of classical painting and contemporary pop culture, blending the timeless poetry of Van Gogh with the vibrant sensuality of modern beach imagery. Technique: oil, acrylic, and ink on canvas 61x46cm (24,02x18,1 inch) ⏩》R E A D Y -- T O -- H A N G《⏪ 🟢 → Original signed work. The composition portrays a young woman kneeling on a golden beach, her gaze turned toward an unseen horizon. A brightly colored beach ball rests by her side, completing a scene that is both idyllic and cinematic. Structurally, the painting is built upon a strong vertical rhythm. The figure, poised elegantly at the center, anchors the canvas while the horizontal bands of sand, sea, and sky establish a serene visual equilibrium. The contrast between the calm geometry of these planes and the organic fluidity of the woman’s form generates a captivating balance, an interplay between order and spontaneity, contemplation and vitality. The background treatment, broad, sweeping brushstrokes layered with spontaneous black splatters introduces a modern tension into what might otherwise be a nostalgic scene. These splashes disrupt the perfection of the postcard image, infusing the composition with movement and energy, as if the sea breeze itself were stirring the paint. This dialogue between control and accident is one of the hallmarks of Bazévian’s visual language. ☀️Use of Color☀️ The color palette radiates warmth and optimism. The vibrant yellows of the sand dominate the foreground, creating a luminous base that reflects sunlight and emotion alike. The turquoise and ultramarine blues of the sea form a cool counterpoint, leading the viewer’s gaze gently toward the horizon. Above, the sky fades from cobalt to soft azure, evoking the weightless calm of summer air. The woman herself becomes the chromatic centerpiece. Her golden-brown hair, rendered with fluid, confident strokes, echoes the tones of the beach, while her bathing suit a deep, patterned blue with yellow accents harmonizes with the surrounding seascape. These recurring hues weave a continuous chromatic thread through the composition, uniting figure and setting in a coherent, sunlit atmosphere. The beach ball introduces a burst of primary color red, green, blue, and white adding a playful punctuation to the painting. This circular element not only anchors the lower portion of the canvas but also contrasts with the figure’s poised stillness, symbolizing leisure, innocence, and the fleeting joys of summer. ■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■ Discover my work on Channel 4 UK in the TV Show "Huges Home" with Hugh Dennis _ Episode 4 ■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■ Bazévian Delacapucinière is a French artist whose works have appeared in numerous exhibitions and publications in Europe, America and Asia. My work focuses on oxidized images from the collective memory of the 20th century. According to Aristotle, from memory to reminiscence, it is necessary to reactivate images through the imagination to know their sensitive power. Consequently, the gaze (of portraits) becomes power, texture becomes light. Finally, this transposition of images becomes my individual memory.
