Of his working process, Bill says – “I want the paint to have a life of its own and so leave its application quite loose at times. I endeavour to escape the confines that realism can impose, leaving more expression and less constraint.”

Bill Bate
Bill Bate is a contemporary figurative artist. He was trained at the prestigious Central Saint Martins School of Art in London and developed the knowledge and understanding of his practice. His atmospheric paintings focus both on the uses of dramatic lighting and above all on the human form and are emotional responses to the body in movement, at rest, and the body observed. Bate's work has a broad range of influences from Caravaggio to Alma Tadema and Rothko.
