About the Item
"Boy with Pails" - A young boy enjoys the rippling waves lapping at his toes as the surf recedes and he pauses to make the most of the moment. He carries pails to bring back water for the moat around his sand castle on the beach. It's another beautiful sunny day at the beach in Southern California.
Artist Carole Garland studied figure drawing at the Art Institute in Chicago and now embraces the opportunity to capture figures at play on the beach or in the water. The reflections in the water amplifying the bright colors of the orange and yellow pails are what drew her to paint this particular scene. A fan of the painter Joaquin Sorolla, she brings many colors into the water to intensify the effect of movement as Sorolla often did.
This 16"x12" inch oil painting on a wood panel is wired on the back for ease of hanging. The natural wood sides can serve as a frame.
Carole Garland is currently in a group show at the Santa Paula Art Museum, Santa Paula, and her work
can also be viewed at Kathryne Designs, Montecito. She has shown with the California Art Club and has
had several individual exhibits at TAG Gallery, Bergamot Station, Santa Monica. She has exhibited in venues all over Southern California and is in art collection throughout the country.

Carole Garland
Carole Garland, born and raised in Chicago, graduated from Knox College, Galesburg, Ill., She studied figure drawing and oil painting at the Art Institute of Chicago and the University of the Americas, Mexico City. After moving to Los Angeles she studied privately with Keith Finch, Venice. Concurrent with her art pursuits, Garland worked as a magazine editor, publicist, director's assistant, book editor, and sales executive. After a brief hiatus from painting, she looked to the outdoors for inspiration and began plein air watercolor studies with Don Blaisdell, UCLA.
