About the Artist: Catherine Garros (b. 1954) always had a pencil in her hand. Self-taught, she is constantly creating. Although she did not benefit from formal academic art training, she did attend classes that reinforced her passion for watercolours. She started painting in oils in 1990. Little by little, she included human subjects in her canvases. It made a change from her landscapes. Influenced by Raoul Dufy and Henri Matisse, she is the youngest among the prominent names of the current Ecole Provençale. Studying her works, one immediately senses a feminine sensitivity; it's the precision in her brush which transmits a real joy for life, a childlike cheerfulness and optimism. Her paintings radiate a soft calm, a light rhythm, and a subtle palette. Catherine Garros is an outstanding colorist. Her luminous canvases engage us with life’s simple joys. They invite us to wander and celebrate life. She recreates a personal world but does not imitate or copy. Her subjects include busy fishermen, small ports, picturesque markets of Provence and carousels of yesteryear. They all make you smile.
