Vampirismo Tropical unfolds as a lush and humid organism, shaped by Christian Wedel’s memories of living in the jungle. The forms carry a sense of moisture and density, recalling vegetation swollen by heat and shadow. Layers of green move with a viscous quality, as if the figure and its surroundings were slowly merging into one breathing surface. Textures slip between skin, foliage, and something entirely other, creating a space where boundaries feel porous and unstable.
The work channels an erotic undercurrent that does not rely on explicit gesture but emerges through curvature, softness, and the suggestion of bodies intertwined with vegetal matter. This sensuality is entangled with a darker realm, one that Christian often explores, where instinct overrides order and where the parts of ourselves we fear most begin to surface.
Within this world, the painting becomes a threshold into an animal state of being. It invites the viewer to move toward the unknown, to sense the pull of desire and danger intertwined, and to recognize that the untamed parts of the self are always waiting beneath the surface.
