About the Item

Christine van der Cingel (1966) paints mainly cityscapes, people and animals. In her portraits the emphasis is on movement. It is more about the suggestion of movement than about the plastic representation of reality. Light plays a major role in her work. The way in which the light makes visible or conceals the contours is especially central. There is also an emphasis on stillness. Her work is essentially about that: the desire to lose yourself and become one with space. With her animal paintings the emphasis has increasingly come to lie on stillness. The animal is often solitary in its environment. The animals have always been depicted in a monumental way, such as primordial creatures on cave paintings. I'm fascinated by the idea that you could 'capture' something big and comprehensive in a painting. By sometimes deliberately keeping the contours of the animals vague, they almost disappear into space, becoming one with space. To become one with space is a way of forgetting time. Animals are always in the here and now. As a result, they have a natural way of 'being'. Christine van der Cingel was educated at the Minerva Art Academy in Groningen. She received her degree in painting in 1992. ''Swimming 1'' combines beautiful with ''Swimming 2'', ''Swimming 3'' and ''Swimming 4'' also for sale on 1stdibs.

Eos Contemporary Underwater Portrait Painting, Girl Swimming in Pool
By Amy Devlin

Amy Devlin portrays people, animals, or nature in her works. But what really matters to her is light and water, which she wants to capture in the form of a physical memory. By following her passion for paint, she tries to represent reality and thereby express her feeling in the expressive colors she uses. Her paintings show a fascination with the movement and texture of water, which is depicted in vivid colors in her works. Her hybrid painting style combines realism with impressionism in a very interesting way, providing a different view of the world and our memories of it. Devlin loves the unexpected, looks at things from a crazy angle and imagines. Since 2014 she mainly paints underwater portraits...
