Exploring the purity of the feminine form and the drama of French haute couture, artist Cindy Shaoul creates a dialogue between the figurative and the abstract. Her spirited compositions are both dramatic and invigorating, capturing the fleeting moment of innocence swept up in bold color and seemingly controlled movement. She demonstrates a whimsical expression of femininity and formality; a stunning display of understated grandeur. It is as if the shape's only purpose is to hold the magnificent colors. This is a unique work painted with oil and mixed media on heavyweight paper, is signed by the artist lower right and titled and dated on verso.

Cindy Shaoul was born in 1987 in New York City and is known for her impressionistic and abstract style. A visual listed American artist with a Hungarian-Persian background that comes from a lineage of artists. She is the granddaughter and pupil of the late Hungarian artist Albert Sz. Nemethy's paintings can be found in the White House, the Kremlin in Russia, and museums in the U.S. and Hungary. Shaoul studied at Emerson College, University in Boston, Massachusetts from the years 2005 and 2007. After that, she lived in Israel studying culture and science, later moving to Hungary to attend the Budai Art Institute of Budapest from 2007 to 2009. In the Spring of 2009, she returned to New York City to continue her artistic education and training at the Art Students League, where she worked under the tutelage of Joseph Peller, Gregg Kreutz, and Tom Torak from the years of 2009 to 2013 she learned techniques from the masters of American Impressionism and The Ashcan School. In 2011 she became a member of the Salmagundi Club. She is best recognized for her series ‘Brides’, ‘Dripping Dots’ and ‘Hearts’, and Plein-Air street scenes of quintessential New York locations. Her work is identified as impressionistic abstraction. Artists who influenced her work include, Edward Potthast, Edgar Degas, Edward Hopper, Mark Rothko, and Elaine DeKooning.
PROVENANCE: Consigned by the gallery directly from Cindy Shaoul Studio. The artwork is accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity issued by the artist. The piece will be stamped from Lilac Gallery on its verso.

Cindy Shaoul
Cindy Shaoul was born in 1987 in New York. She is a visual listed American artist and formally trained. Shaoul has developed a passion for Impressionist street scenes and portraits. With a Hungarian-Persian background that comes from a lineage of artists, Shaoul has matured unique expressions with her voice and story to tell. After completing her professional education at the Emerson College in Boston, she later moved to Israel and Hungary to study culture and science while absorbing the energy of these new cities. In Budapest, she attended the Budai Art Institute from 2007–09, later returning to New York City to continue her artistic education at the Art Students League, where she worked under the tutelage of Joseph Peller, Gregg Kreutz and Thomas Torak. In 2010, she met renowned street artist LA II (Angel Ortiz), who previously worked with Keith Allen Haring in the late 1980s. LA II strongly influenced her style with the powerful impact of 1980s hip-hop and graffiti. They began collaborating on a collection of exciting street art which was later exhibited in Europe. Having built a diverse body of work since her early career ranging from portraits to colorful abstract paintings, Shaoul is constantly reinventing her style working on a range of collections from Pop Culture to City Street Scenes. Shaoul is active in New York and abroad, working diligently on expanding her technique and adding new and exciting elements to her work.

Deborah Dancy is an abstract artist. Her paintings and drawings are sensuous provocations beset with marks that guide, then abruptly collide into confrontational slabs of color. There is an atmosphere of complex but urgent tension in her work, as she builds tangential linear demarcations, and abutting shapes, that provoke, entice and disrupt; -taking us everywhere and nowhere. From densely painted forms to more minimally declared images, Dancy’s work operates in the recognition that meanderings, intentional and accidental declarations are best when the beautiful and the disconcerting exist simultaneously.
Deborah Dancy was born in Bessemer, Alabama and raised in Chicago, Illinois. She earned BFA from Illinois Wesleyan University and an MS and an MFA from Illinois State University. She is the recipient of John Simon Guggenheim Foundation Fellowship, a Yaddo Fellow, and a National Endowment of the Arts NEFA award.
