Manzanita (genus Arctostaphylos) refers to evergreen shrubs and small trees, mostly native to western North America, especially California, known for their smooth, reddish bark, twisting branches, leathery leaves, and clusters of urn-shaped flowers that bloom in winter, followed by berries, providing food and habitat for wildlife.
The complexity of these small interactions and the spaces they create provide the backdrop to our daily musings but also the existence we sometimes take for granted. Danza hopes that viewers take a bit of that ineffable feeling of well being that comes from awe and wonder with them and that it brings them a bit closer to each other and the natural world we are all a part of.
