Edwin Burrage Child was a prominent New England portraitist and landscape painter during the first few decades of the twentieth century. In 1894 he married Anna Sykes of Dorset, Vermont, beginning a life long connection to the southern part of the Green Mountain State. He studied art at the Art Student's League in New York, where he was an assistant to the famed artist John LaFarge.
