About the Item
Piccola guarnitura Colleoni Milano (?) ca. 1600 - ca. 1610 Colleoni Garniture An armor garniture is a complete suit of armor with a set of exchange elements designed to adapt the basic unit to different uses, such as tournament or battle. This armor is extraordinarily complete and homogeneous. Its ornaments are in the French style, but the type of workmanship reveals the Milanese origin of this armor, dating to about 1600. According to tradition, it belonged to the Colleoni family of Bergamo and Guardino Colleoni probably owned it. Historical references per the Museum Poldi Pezzoli. Armor for Heavy Cavalry French ca. 1600 One of the best-preserved French armors dating from the reign of Henry IV (15891610), this example demonstrates the French preference for completely gilt armors. It retains its original yellow silk helmet lining and red leather straps sewn with metallic thread. In spite of its rich decoration, this armor was intended for use in battle. It was made at a time when the lance had been abandoned by the heavily armored cavalry in favor of a pair of pistols kept in holsters at the front of the saddle. The presence of hand firearms on the battlefield led to the increasing weight of armors such as this and the gradual discarding of elements like the defenses for the lower legs. Historical references per the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
Elena always wanted to be an artist. As a child in Ukraine, she received a classical art education which she used for over a decade as an architect. It was an applied form of her desire to create art. Elena moved away from architecture into teaching art to children and painting when she could, and finally she was able to focus all her time being an artist and learning.
She moved to America in 2013 and turned her full attention to painting.
She tries to use every opportunity to learn anything new – new tools, mediums, techniques – anything new at all.
Elena’s favorite subjects to paint are people with their personalities, moods, thoughts, and favorite things. “I really like to explore the personalities of my models through building the structure of portraiture with oil paint and paintbrush.”
Her current focus is portraiture. She seeks a connection with the model that she can translate to the surface.
Elena is a member of The Portrait Society of America. She received an award of Signature Status with the Portrait Society of America in 2022.In
