About the Item

Cubist acrylic on paper on card by French artist Eliane Versini , signed, dated and titled 'Etude pour le Trio' to the front bottom right and the same to the bottom right reverse. Highly colourful and joyful painting of three dancing figures. Inspired by modern art and cubism, especially Picasso and Bracques. Eliane was born in 1933 and as a child would cut out pictures from catalogues and using flour and water as a glue would stick them in place to create unique collages. She was in her own words inspired by the nature surrounding her in Provence, the bird song, the wind, the sound of the bells from the nearby village of Ollioules, the immense expanse of countryside leading to a sea which melted into the sky. In the 1960s she moved to Levalloit-Perret , Paris where she was able to take evening classes at the Beaux Arts and workshops at the CNAE. The rest of her life whilst working as an artist was devoted to teaching and inspiring people of all ages in the pursuit of art. Eliane came across the social centre 'Marie-Jeanne Bassot in Ollioules where she was able to share her talents and offer evening courses and workshops. A 25 year period of teaching ensued during which she herself was able to explore and develop new ideas and techniques. Earlier influences came from modern art and especially cubism whereas later she returned to her childhood fascination with collage, inspired at this point by the works of Arcimboldo. Versini's later years were spent living in the country neary Flayosc, a small village in Provence surrounded by nature which for her had always been her greatest inspiration. She died in Flayosc in 2020.

Déplacement — Portrait in Diachronic cubism, Acrylic on canvas, 2025, French
Located in PÉRIGUEUX, FR
Deplacement Acrylic on canvas 60 x 92 cm “Déplacement” (“Displacement”) exemplifies Grégoire Mathias’s signature Diachronic Cubism — a contemporary evolution of Cubism that captures not only multiple perspectives in space, but also the passage of time within a single frame. In this work, intertwined faces and figures emerge through rhythmic geometric planes, suggesting both emotional movement and physical transition. The warm palette of ochre and sienna contrasts with sharp greys and whites, creating a powerful sense of fragmentation and reunion. Subtle red linework recalls the artist’s architectural precision, while the composition’s temporal layering evokes fleeting moments suspended between past and present. This piece reflects Mathias’s ongoing exploration of the human form through temporal geometry — a visual dialogue between motion, memory, and identity. Collector’s Insight: This work belongs to the artist’s larger inquiry into time and perspective, where emotion and structure coexist. It offers a bold yet intimate statement for modern interiors or collectors drawn to the lineage of Cubism reimagined for the 21st century. Perfect For: Collectors of figurative or abstract Cubism • Modern and contemporary interiors Collector’s Insight: This work belongs to the artist’s larger inquiry into time and perspective, where emotion and structure coexist. It pairs beautifully with Après Midi en Grèce or Le Banquet, offering a bold yet intimate statement for modern interiors or collectors drawn to the lineage of Cubism reimagined for the 21st century.
