The Wedding of Rebecca and Isaac is an oil painting realized by Enrico Savini (1832-1869), in the mid-19th Century. Artist's name on the bottom plate. 119x159 cm with frame. Very good conditions. Rebecca and Isaac is a biblical topic, their story is told on Genesis. Abraham seeks a wife for his son Isaac and entrusts this task to his servant Eliezer. He meets the beautiful Rebecca in the city of Arran and persuades her to marry Isaac. From the union of the two, Esaù and Jacob will be born, immediately in conflict with each other. Esau will sell his offspring for lentil soup and Jacob will become the forefather. In the Talmud, Rebecca is considered the progenitor of the Jewish people, through Jacob, and of the Roman people, through Esau. This wonderful painting, full of romantic atmosphere as well as of realistic details of human figures and animals, follows most of the stylistic canons of the orientalist genre which started in France in the late 18th Century and became very popular in Europe in 19th Century.
