About the Item

Félix PARMENTIER Paris, 1821 – Paris, 1883 "Yvonne and Her Dog" Oil on canvas 46 x 38 cm (58 x 50 cm with frame) Signed lower left "FParmentier" Inscription on the verso "Parmentier / Yvonne and Her Dog / Exhibition 1868" Beautiful Montparnasse frame Félix Parmentier was a painter of the French Realist school who studied with Léon Cogniet. This painting is probably a sketch for his Salon exhibition of 1868. It is worth noting that the title of the sketch, "Yvonne and Her Dog," was changed at the Salon to the more refined title "Yvonne and Her Faithful Friend"! There is a very nice modeling and a powerful rendering of texture in this painting. Based on the woman's headdress, the scene is likely set in Finistère. And actually in 1868, Parmentier also exhibited another painting, "Leaving the Church (Finistère)".
