Flora is an Argentinian artist, born in Buenos Aires. She was introduced to the practices of art from a very young age by her mother, also an artist. Observing her mother working from their home studio contributed to establishing the ethos of artistic discipline and creativity in Castiglia’s persona early on. Flora’s early works were designs developed for musicians and interpretations of record covers, and these influences have undoubtedly shaped the subtle undertones of Castiglia’s imagery which can be described a ‘melodic’. Her works are imbued with references of musical notes in both their form and carefully crafted composition, which, combined with a choice of muted, deep colour palette make her style instantly recognisable. Contemplative and visually compelling, Castiglia’s paintings explore the relationship between the inside and the outside together with the perception of our own bodies within these realms. Through patterns, shapes and colours, Flora deconstructs and plays with the rearrangement the places and familiar object within them. She transforms and merges interior and exterior worlds, creating an interdimensional space where potted plants and mountains exist within one abstract space organically.
