A magnificently detailed depiction of young Henry VIII displaying his sporting prowess at the Field of the Cloth of Gold, the opulent 1520 summit between Henry VIII and French King Francis I (likely the background figure on the right). This historic meeting, designed to strengthen Anglo-French relations following their 1514 treaty, featured lavish displays of wealth through feasts, music, and athletic tournaments. Signed to the lower left. Well presented in a swept gilt-effect frame. On panel.
