⭐Provencal landscape
René LEFEBURE (1888-1941)
Active: 1926-1941
René Lefébure undertook an internship in an architectural firm in South America between 1908 and 1913. Mobilized in 1914, he was taken prisoner and shared his captivity with Louis Baschet. During those four years, he played an active role in boosting the morale of fellow prisoners by participating in creating stage designs for various theater productions. After the war, he resumed studies in decorative and industrial design before joining L’Illustration in 1926. As noted in L’Illustration on October 18, 1941, just days after his passing: "A valuable contributor to our artistic department, he was responsible for the delicate assemblies of our Christmas editions, as well as conceiving and drafting the designs and layouts for our magazines, albums, and publications." He eventually became head of the drawing workshop.
Lefébure created numerous layouts for special issues, especially the Christmas editions. In addition to his work at the Bobigny printing house, he contributed to various renovations of the headquarters on Rue Saint-Georges, the expansion of the paper mills in Savoie, and the Saint-Mandé printing facilities. He also designed the plans for the first houses built to accommodate the staff of the Bobigny printing house. Several of these homes were constructed in the late 1930s but were later demolished during the urbanization of the Pont-de-Pierre neighborhood. René Lefébure’s name was engraved at the base of L’Illustration tower.
