About the Item

French Mid 20th Century watercolour on paper view of Breton fishermen gathering their nets by Girard. The painting is signed bottom right and presented in a period wood and plaster frame under glass. A charming view of a group of fishermen in their jaunty nautical hats and working outfits preparing nets around a fishing boat. The harbour is full of other craft, four brightly coloured row boats, a twin master coming in to port, in the distance two boats in full sail. Protecting the port a stately lighthouse at the end of a harbour wall. Girard has created a very successful composition, full of the colours of the sea, he has captured the feeling a lovely sunny but breezy day at the coast.
