A substantial, early twentieth-century, Post-Impressionist oil showing a view of a gondolas on a picturesque Venetian canal. A substantial and lyrical work by this early woman modernist.
Harriet Rosander de Tourtchaninoff first studied in Stockholm at Otte Sköld's painting school (1929-1931) before continuing her education at the Academy of Fine Arts from (1932-1936). She subsequently made several study trips to Denmark, Germany, Norway and Italy. Rosander was first married to the artist Gustaf Sjöö, with whom she exhibited in 1938 and, for the second time, to Michel de Tourtchaninoff. She exhibited widely and with success from the 1930's through the 1960's including at group exhibitions at the Ångermanland Art Association and in the Roslagen Artists' Guild exhibition at Uplands Nation in Uppsala.
