About Hayes Lyon:
Born in 1901 in Athol, Kansas, Hayes Lyon became a leading figure in 20th-century American art, especially noted for his evocative Rocky Mountain landscapes and Southwestern scenes. Educated at the Chappell School of Art and the University of Denver, Lyon’s career spanned murals, landscapes, and portraits. Influenced by European masters like Diego Rivera and Giorgio de Chirico during his WWII service, his style evolved toward abstraction later in life. A key member of the WPA Colorado Art Project, his works are held in prominent collections including the Denver Art Museum and Kirkland Museum.
