Jacopo Amigoni (Venice 1682 - Madrid 1752) - Madonna and Child. 82 x 62 cm unframed, 104.5 x 66.5 cm with frame. Oil on canvas, in a carved and gilded wooden frame (not signed). - A critical note by Professor Dario Succi is attached. Condition report: Lined canvas. The painted surface is in good condition. Jacopo Amigoni (Naples or Venice 1682 - Madrid 1752) was one of the most important masters of eighteenth-century European painting, known for his elegant style that helped spread Venetian Rococo painting throughout Europe. Amigoni stood out for his light, decorative style, less dramatic than many of his Venetian contemporaries, characterized by graceful figures in elegant poses and a pale color palette, reflected in the subjects' fabrics and skin. This approach, closely related to French painting, fully embraced the elegance and lightheartedness of the Rococo movement, making the artist a success. He was sought after and acclaimed in all of the continent's cultural capitals, including London, Paris, Bavaria, and Madrid, where he served as court painter. Our Madonna and Child revisits, with a new and original composition, one of the artist's favorite sacred themes. The Virgin, with childlike features and a sense of emotion, holds the sweet Child in her arms, abandoned to sleep and with plump, rosy cheeks, while at their side a delightful young Saint John watches them in prayer. The work reflects all the master's signature stylistic features, including the chromatic lightness of the almost porcelain-like flesh tones, the intense cobalt blue, and the red robe contrasting with the white sheet. - This item is sold with a certificate of authenticity with legal validity. - Further details on the condition report are available upon request. *Please keep in mind that this work has not yet obtained the certificate of free export from Italy from the Superintendence of Cultural Heritage. This document certifies that the work is not part of the Italian cultural heritage. Normally the times for issuing certificates are 40 days from the date of the appointment: The new legislation in force from 2021 provides for shorter times at the discretion of the expert commission for declared amounts of less than € 13,500. All costs of this operation are included.

(Work with expertise by Dr. Arabella Cifani) In the pleasing work proposed, depicting a classical Nativity scene, the Madonna is immortalised in adoration as she gently holds the sheet on which the Child is lying, with a gesture of protection and pride that facilitates an atmosphere of intimate recollection, in addition to the presence of three cherubs at the top. The stylistic analysis of the canvas can easily be traced back to a painter of the Genoese school and active during the 17th century, specifically with the devotional works from the workshop of Domenico Piola (Genoa, 1627-1703), an absolute protagonist of Genoese Baroque culture. Piola was the owner of the most important city painting workshop of the time, known as 'Casa Piola', where his sons Paolo Gerolamo and Anton Maria also collaborated. His production, which specialised in a type of highly decorative, profane and allegorical paintings, destined for the decoration of Genoese patrician palaces, also included a refined series of works of a religious nature.
