About the Item
A hand-carved, gilt-wood framed oil on canvas “Debardeurs au Travail” by Belgium artist, Jacques Madyol (1871-1950). Madyol was a painter of genre scenes and portraits. He was also a designer. He studied at the Brussels Academy of Fine Arts from 1893 to1897. Madyol painted landscapes and portraits in Brazil and painted landscapes with figures while in Nice. Madyol exhibited at important art venues, including at the “L’Exposition Treinnale d’Anvers”(1901), in Brussels (1907) and at the Worlds Fair and the International Fair de Bruxelles(1910). In 1931, he exhibited with Le Cercle Artistique et Literaire de Bruxelles. Today,his works can be found in private and public collections including at the Musee de l’Armee in Brussels.
