Signed lower right, 'J. Meyer Andersen for Johan Meyer Andersen (Danish, 1919-2005) inscribed "Paris" and painted circa 1960.
An intimate, Parisian interior scene showing a beautiful young woman arranging tulips on a sunlit table with a view of Paris through an open window, looking towards the Île de la Cité and the spires of Notre Dame.
Johannes Meyer Andersen's earliest interest in painting was inspired by Paul Gauguin's son, Jean, who took the young artist to exhibitions while staying with his family in the summer. Andersen first studied with Martin Rasmussen at the Royal Danish Art Academy and, subsequently, in Paris (1938, 1948, 1958-62), Italy (1950-56) and England. Andersen exhibited internationally with success and was the recipient of numerous prizes, medals and juried awards including Artist of the Year (Skagen,1985). We are pleased to offer a vibrant work from the artist's third Paris period.
