Victorian Male Realistic Portrait Oil Painting of Cavalier in Period Costume. Signed Oil Painting on Canvas, on stretchers and Framed in period Frame.
A humorous and beautifully painted period portrait entitled "The Story Told" it is one of a pair of paintings by this highly collectable and hugely popular artist. Seymour Lucas no doubt benefited from his great friendship with the American Portrait Painter John Singer Sargant, who in fact painted a portrait of Seymour Lucas which is part of the Tate Collection.
Seymour Lucas was a member of the Royal Academy and the Royal Institute and was commissioned to paint a large fresco entitled the Flight of the Five Members 1642 in the House of Commons.
His work was popular in late Victorian Britain and amongst his peers, it remains highly prized to this day. It is rare to the market and especially to find a great pair like these two.
