Gorgeous O/L “Women in the Market”, José Diereseu, 1967, Naïve Contemporary Art - Dominican Republic
Great work done in oil on canvas. A group of dark-skinned women carrying baskets with fruit is depicted. What is striking is that the landscape itself has been composed with the same fruits. It is a creative painting, full of vitality despite tending towards monochrome. In addition, the technique is exquisite, naïve, since simple shapes created with fine black lines and toasted beige shading prevail. On the lower right is the signature of the artist, Jose Diereseu, a contemporary artist from the Dominican Republic.
At the moment, Central Caribbean naïve art is in full trend. It is necessary to highlight leading artists such as the Cuban Alexis Leiva or the famous Cándido Bidó, Dominican.
