Juan Orvay (1938) - Peasants of Ibiza - Oil on panel

Joan Orvay Orvay (Eivissa 1938) ART Painter. He studied at the School of Arts and Crafts in Ibiza, where he obtained the Gallego Burín drawing prize. In an impressionist figurative style, he works in oil and pastels with thick strokes and brush strokes in the form of spots of color, preferably greens, ochres, greys, violets, blues and luminous whites. The reflections and the vibrant light impasto give his compositions an elegant lyricism. His subjects, the landscape and the figure, demonstrate his taste for nature and the chromaticism of the Ibizan landscapes. He presented his first individual exhibition in the exhibition room of the Caixa de Pensions d'Eivissa in 1961, in which he continued to exhibit until 1984. In 1986 he presented his scenes from Ibiza in the Sala de Cultura of "Sa Nostra" from Ibiza. He has also exhibited regularly since 1990 in the room of the Caixa Postal Argentaria in Ibiza. His work is continuously present in Palma, where he exhibited views of Ibiza and figures in oil at the Costa Galleries in 1975 and at the Cercle de Belles Arts in 1977 and 1983.

Ignacio Gil Sala, was a painter, bohemian character, adventurous and intrepid traveler who knew how to capture his eyes to that world with his painting. After starting his artistic training at the age of nine, Gil Sala entered the School of Fine Arts in Barcelona, where he had as teachers Felix Mestres and Vicente Borrás. Already in 1930, being still almost an apprentice, he obtained the bronze medal of the School, and in 1936 he won by contest a scholarship to make a study trip through Spain. Those were the difficult moments of the outbreak of the Civil War and thanks to the help of the sculptor Mariano Benlliure, he was able to complete his artistic training. Throughout his life Ignacio Gil dedicated himself to travel both in the Peninsula and in different Islamic and Latin American countries. He exhibited his work in Spain, France, the Philippines, Switzerland, the United States, Canada and Colombia, among many other countries.
