About the Item

17th Century Italian Religious Painting on Glass Beautiful and important oil painting on glass based on an engraving, not signed, dated 1655 at the bottom centre, follower of Leandro Bassano. This is probably a private devotional painting depicting the Crucifixion, rendered with accents of rare intensity and depth intended for reflection and meditation. The painting shows Christ crucified, with the Virgin Mary and St John the Evangelist at his sides, and other mourning figures beneath the cross. The iconography of the Crucifixion is a central symbol of the Christian religion and sacred art. The skull at the base of the cross represents Golgotha, the place of crucifixion, while the red planet in the upper right corner is a very rare iconographic subject. This artwork, never before on the market, comes from an important Italian private collection Every item of our Gallery, upon request, is accompanied by a certificate of authenticity issued by Sabrina Egidi official Expert in Italian furniture for the Chamber of Commerce of Rome and for the Rome Civil Courts. Our company has been present on this platform for many years, with numerous sales made and just as many excellent reviews received that you can under our Furniture account. Leandro Dal Ponte, known as Bassano (Bassano del Grappa, 10 June 1557 - Venice, 15 April 1622), was an Italian painter. The fourth son of Jacopo Bassano, he was trained in the family workshop, often working in his hometown during his early years. Having already gained considerable fame as a portraitist, after the death of his father and brother Francesco, he decided to settle in Venice in 1592, where he first set about completing the works left unfinished by his brother. At the same time, he was commissioned to work on the decoration of the Doge's Palace. Although his style was strongly based on his father's late manner, especially as a portraitist, he showed a certain influence from Tintoretto with a predilection for line. Under existing legislation, any artwork created over 70 years ago by an artist who has died can requires a license for export regardless of the work’s market price. The shipping may require additional handling days to require the license according to the destination of the artwork.

Religious Subject Oil on Canvas Italy XVII Century
Located in Milan, IT
Oil painting on canvas. It is a vintage copy of the engraving of the same name made by Annibale Carracci (1560-1609), which had immediate success and gave rise to a series of printed replicas and painted copies. It presents the moment of the Passion in which Christ is crowned with the crown of thorns, the object of torture, the disparaging symbol of his proclamation as King of Kings. The act is performed by two figures, the Roman soldier and the Jew, representing the two people who they took part in Christ's death sentence. The figures, vigorous and sanguine, those of the two tormentors paler and more inert than the victim, create an intertwined composition of bodies, with that of the central Jesus joining the other two, uniting them in the shared responsibility of what they are doing; placed sideways, Jesus has his head bent forcibly to the left by the soldier who imposes the crown of thorns on him, while the Jew on the right places the bamboo cane in his hand, replacing the scepter. The scene is dominated by gloomy and dark colors, among which only the bright red of Christ's robe stands...
