About the Item
You look at my paintings, that's a slice of life you never saw before. Right now, and for a good number of years, I've been an urban painter. My life, my reality is Chicago. Bow now it's all memory. I don't care what's going on now. There are all those new buildings that have been built since I used to go downtown. I'm not interested in those. I mean, I have an architectural interest, but not as an artist. And my memory of what it was like as a kid - the space, the old buildings, the old wallpaper, the old broken sidewalks, the cracks in the street, the bricks on the old walls over the years - that's memory, that's history. It's not nostalgia. Because those were not necessarily the good old days. Some were pretty bad. But that was reality. That's what I try to create in my paintings.
