About the Item
María Corte (*1983, Barcelona) is a Catalan-Argentine painter and illustrator who stands out on the contemporary art scene for her colorful and energetic work. She completed her studies at the Escola Massana in Barcelona and graduated in illustration in 2009. Since then, she has enjoyed considerable success both nationally and internationally, working with prestigious clients such as The New York Times, The Washington Post, The Guardian, Adobe and Apple.
Corte continues to experiment and explore new techniques and formats. Her work reflects her biographical history, in particular the migration experience of her family, who fled the Argentine dictatorship to Spain in 1976. These “transits” between cultures and artistic forms of expression characterize her works, which often have ironic and conceptual dimensions.
Her works combine Cubist and Fauvist influences and convey a dynamic, sensual image of women, which is particularly evident in her portraits and cityscapes. The cities she paints - including Barcelona, New York, Madrid and Havana - come to life in her works in a characteristic way.
