Presented in a new white mat with foam-core backing. Mat: 32"H x 26"W Paper: 24 1/2"H x 19 1/2"W Image: 20 3/8"H x 16 1/4"W Marilyn Thompson (American, 1927-2015) was born in Santa Paula. California. She received an art degree from San Jose State in 1950, after which she worked for H. M. Gousha, for whom she drew many illustrations of missions and other California sites. From the mid-1970s on, she did freelance drawing and painting, with lots of commercial work (pamphlet illustrations, posters, custom birthday cards, etc). During the 1980s and 1990s she made hundreds of drawings and paintings at the free Palo Alto Library art classes with live models. Some of her portraits are on permanent display at the Sunnyvale Historic Museum as a part of the Historical Portrait Project.

Portrait of a young woman in an elegant white dress by Antonio Sotomayor (Bolivian, 1902-1985). Signed "Sotomayor" in the lower left corner. Presented in a wood frame. Image size: 30.25"H x 25.25"W Antonio Sotomayor (Bolivian, 1902-1985) was born in Chulumani, Bolivia on May 13, 1902. Sotomayor began his art studies in La Paz under Belgian master Adolf Lambert and by age 15 was contributing illustrations to Bolivian periodicals. After settling in San Francisco in 1923, he continued his art training at the CSFA. He was soon busy illustrating newspapers, magazines, and books. His caricatures appeared in the San Francisco Chronicle, Life, and others. He taught art at Mills College in Oakland (1942-43) and at the CSFA (1946-50). Sotomayor contributed greatly to California art for over 60 years until his death in San Francisco on Feb. 10, 1985. Member: SFAA; Bohemian Club.
