Si tratta di opera del frate gesuita Mario Venzo, pittore veneto che, dopo l'attività pittorica degli anni giovanili da bohémien a Parigi, si consacrò nel 1940 alla vita monastica, continuando peraltro a dipingere.
In quest' opera è raffigurato in primo piano, all' interno di una moderna bottega artigianale, un giovane operaio al lavoro, il cui capo è contornato di luce: si tratta probabilmente di una proiezione moderna di Gesù giovane al lavoro nella bottega del padre.
Lo stile dell' opera rimanda al periodo pittorico di Venzo antecedente il 1953, anno dopo il quale la sua produzione si accese di cromie accese e vivaci, e di una maggior stilizzazione delle figure, pur rimanendo spesso legato al soggetto sacro.
L'opera è presentata in cornice.

This early 19th-century central European oil painting depicts Christ The Saviour standing atop an orb and carrying a cross over his left shoulder.
An unusual composition, Christ’s rather striking posture is perhaps more ‘Saturday Night Fever’ than it is sacramental. However, the iconography is archaic and derived ultimately from New Testament illustrations dating to the Middle Ages. Depictions of orbs are usually symbolic of the universe, while the cross alludes to redemption. Hence, it’s a visual representation of Christ as the Saviour of humanity.
