About the Item

This is an original oil painting panel by artist Mat Tomezsko depicting an abstracted street sign / poster with graffiti. Tomezsko's paintings were made in reaction to direct experiences and observations while he was working as a community artist in the socially challenged but resilient Kensington neighborhood of Philadelphia. Tomezsko is Program Manager and Lead Artist for the Philadelphia Mural Arts "Color Me Back: Same Day Work and Pay Program." This an innovative program that combines participatory art-making and access to social services in a unique model offering individuals experiencing economic insecurity an opportunity to earn wages. Participants can connect, contribute, and engage with peer specialists who can link them with support services, including social and/or behavioral health services, and potential opportunities for longer-term employment while working in the program. This painting is signed. Includes all hanging hardware and ready to install; no need for additional framing. These paintings work particularly well in a series. Each is listed separately on 1stDibs, but I will be happy to combine shipping for multiple purchases. Mat Tomezsko is an artist from Philadelphia who creates abstract paintings, public art installations, and community art projects based around participation and everyday visual language. His approach to composition is informed by mid-century formalism and conceptualism. His work was recognized by the 2017 Americans for the Arts Public Art Network Year in Review for outstanding public art. Tomezsko’s work has been exhibited at numerous art spaces regionally and nationally, including the Crane Arts, Woodmere Art Museum, the Center For Emerging Visual Artists (CFEVA), and Wexler Gallery in Philadelphia; Lillstreet Art Center in Chicago, IL; the Delaware Contemporary in Wilmington, DE; and Thomas Hunter Projects in New York, NY. He has created several notable public art projects including "14 Movements: A Symphony in Color and Words," a mile-long temporary mural installed in downtown Philadelphia during the 2016 Democratic National Convention; "Look Long and Look Good," a series of 30 paintings currently installed along Main Street in Manayunk; and "Flowering Axes," a mural in the 5th Street Vehicular Tunnel underneath the Ben Franklin Bridge. His work is in the collection of The Wharton School at The University of Pennsylvania; The Fox School of Business at Temple University; Avira residences nin Philadelphia; Capital One in Wilmington, DE; and various private collections.

Meme Money 007: Green Goochi, by XVALA, Mixed Media Painting
By XVALA
Located in Oklahoma City, OK
In this mixed media 24"x24" painting, 'Meme Money 007: Green Goochi,' by XVALA, the artist colorfully plays with the 'Gucci' brand in tandem with the childhood cartoon series, SpongeBob. SpongeBob, as a green 'Goochi Sponge,' takes center stage with a green letter pattern on the canvas background. The work is a screen print with additional painting and iridescent oil stick by the artist with predominant colors of green and gold. XVALA's art illuminates the hidden fallout spawned from our high tech Internet age. His 'Fear Google' campaign exposed the decay of privacy and No Delete used hacked nude celebrity photos to highlight loss of control over personal information. The artist has worked with trash from the homes of Mark Zuckerberg, Steve Jobs, and others, as well as dirt from the graves of George Orwell and Aldous Huxley. The dirt appears in the New World Order collection as part of a pyramidal, 3D printed, living ant farm...
