Description:
This striking original oil painting by British contemporary artist Minty Ramsey depicts a winter forest in Kuusamo, Finland, a region renowned for its Arctic light, snow-laden trees, and dramatic colour shifts at sunrise and sunset. Kuusamo sits near the northern edge of Finland’s Lapland region, where winter light behaves in extraordinary ways—soft pastels meeting deep shadows, long blue tones stretching across the snow, and warm horizon glows that last for hours during the polar season. Ramsey captures this phenomenon with remarkable sensitivity and expressive energy.
Tall, slender tree trunks stretch vertically through the composition, their blue and indigo shadows creating bold contrasts against the soft, luminous snow.
