About the Item

“In Her Thoughts” is a powerful contemporary abstract figurative painting and an essential piece in Natalya’s ongoing series dedicated to Women—a body of work she has been developing for more than four years. Through bold colors, sculptural textures, and expressive strokes, this artwork invites the viewer into the intimate, inner landscape of a woman navigating her thoughts, emotions, and truths. The figure’s contemplative posture—head gently leaning against her hand—captures a moment suspended between vulnerability and quiet strength. Her face, shaped by vivid yellows, deep blues, soft peach tones, and intense reds, mirrors the emotional complexity of modern womanhood: the capacity to feel deeply, to adapt, to carry responsibilities, to love, to doubt, and yet remain resilient. Over the years, Natalya has explored the role of women in today’s society: the expectations placed upon them, the invisible strength they must uphold, and the unique emotional intelligence that shapes their world. She paints not only the seen but the felt, giving voice to the silent inner dialogues that many women recognize. As she explains: “My Women are not just characters—they are emotions, fragments of life, reflections of experiences we often hide.” Another recurring idea in her work is the profound resilience that defines contemporary femininity. Natalya’s subjects are never passive; even when introspective, they radiate energy, dignity, and determination. She often says: “A woman can be fragile and powerful at the same time. I paint that duality, because it’s real.” Authenticity lies at the heart of Natalya’s artistic philosophy. Her spontaneous, layered brushstrokes and unapologetically vibrant palette are acts of emotional honesty. She believes that art must come from a true place—free from trends, expectations, or constraints. As she expresses it: “Painting is my way of staying honest. If I don’t feel something, I cannot paint it.” “In Her Thoughts” embodies this philosophy: it is raw, expressive, and deeply human. The textured surface and rhythmic movements of the paint reveal the artist’s hand and inner state, allowing the viewer to feel the immediacy behind each gesture. Through this piece—and the broader series dedicated to Women—Natalya celebrates the inner strength, complexity, and authenticity of the modern woman. She portrays not an idealized figure, but a true one: thoughtful, emotional, courageous, and beautifully real. About the piece: Acrylic paint on cotton stretched canvas, ready to hang Finished with a special gloss varnish Size: 24 x 33 x 2 cm (9.45 x 7.09 x 0.59 in) Signed on front and back International delivery from France About the Artist: Originally from Pavlodar, Kazakhstan, and now based in Lyon, France, Natalya Mougenot has spent over two decades refining her artistic voice. Her multicultural background and personal experience inform her bold, expressive works, which have found homes in private collections around the world. Natalya’s distinctive visual language blends Abstract Expressionism, Impressionism, Art Naïf, and Art Brut—resulting in paintings that are raw, instinctive, and emotionally resonant. Across her work, three values guide her: authenticity, sincerity, and honesty. “Authenticity is everything,” she says. “People can always feel when something is real—or when it’s not. I want my work to be honest, to come from a place that’s true.” In addition to painting, Natalya is also a passionate photographer. Her photographic work—also featured on this platform—mirrors her painterly sensibility: a poetic, observational approach that captures the quiet power of everyday life. For her, photography is both inspiration and a form of presence, often serving as visual sketches for future paintings or existing as standalone works.
