Wonderful double-sided oil painting of the artist Jane Voitel Mellin reading a book and also a landscape of an ocean path on verso by Nicholas Read (American), circa 1975. Unsigned. From a collection of the artist Jane Voitel Mellin. Unframed. Image size: 50.5"H x 44"W.
This painting was a commission by Jane Voitel Mellin's husband circa 1975 of Jane Voitel Mellin and painted by Nick Read.
Nicholas Read is a painter of landscape, still life and portraits. He is a follower of Poussin, Constable, Corot, and Degas. Nick has a BFA in Painting from the UNC Chapel Hill and has taken classes at the SMFA. He is a member of the Copley Society and the Rockport and Marblehead Art Associations.
I consider the decision to become a serious painter my most significant artistic accomplishment. It came late, when I was 45.
"I started my adult life in 1974 with a BFA from UNC Chapel Hill. I painted here and there through the years of graduate and law school that followed, but once I started a legal career and a family painting took a back seat until 1995, when I made a commitment to start again and to show my work on a regular basis.
I exhibited my work for the first time in over 20 years at the Cambridgeport Artists Open Studios, and have done so annually since. I paint consistently in the field and in my home studio, completing approximately 25 paintings a year." Nick Read.
