About the Item

Monumental, important WPA painting signed by Percy Albee. The painting is oil canvas measuring 36" x 48". Titled verso "New Americans", this WPA painting was exhibited at the Carnegie Institute in Pittsburgh in 1941 and at the Montross Academy in New York. Albee was born in Bridgeport CT and studied at the Rhode Island School of Design and the Pennsylvania Academy. He was a muralist, lived in Paris, and his works can be found at the Metropolitan Museum in NY and at the National Gallery in Washington. The painting is untouched original condition with no in-painting or restoration. A exceptional example of the WPA period, done by one of its important teachers and artists. Percy Albee is a notable figure associated with the concept of "New Americans," which refers to the evolving identity and contributions of immigrants in the United States.
