A young man faces forward, staring longingly and contemplatively in a manner which both invites and confronts the viewer in tandem. Balancing both introspection and communication Lupkin creates an intriguing and nuanced work both thematically and technically. The figure, precisely and methodically fades from the center of the painting as it drips into the umber wash of the background creating an abrupt yet balanced merging of the cool tones within the subject against the warmth of the underpainting. This piece is framed in a simple black wooden frame measuring 25h x 19w x 2d inches.

The artwork I create is a visual statement of my moral philosophy. The language I use to convey this philosophy in my pieces is one of traditional symbolism, this being indoctrinated into my personality through an apprenticeship into a traditional stained glass studio at the age of 14 and continuing to the present day. I seek to create scenes and narratives that are at the same time realistic and fantastical. I often use pre-existing stories when I am developing an image. I will then take these narratives and expose a less studied side of them, or try to bring them into a contemporary context.
Ultimately my goal is to use modern imagery in conjunction with traditional techniques and connect them with contemporary society, showing both the narrative’s and the method’s continued relevance.

The artwork I create is a visual response to my upbringing and influences. My work is a combination of historical symbolism and modern experience. Historical symbolism has been indoctrinated into my visual language through an apprenticeship into a multi generational stained glass studio at the age of 14 and continuing to the present day. With this as a background language I embrace modern concerns, methods and techniques and seek to connect my own experiences with contemporary society.
