The scene depicts a group of farmers and peasant women gathering baskets of flowers, making music and dancing to the sound of bagpipes and tambourine, and some take the opportunity to woo.
It is thus a popular country festival, a favorite subject of Barucci, a Roman painter who depicted mainly the daily life of the countryside.
His almost all-encompassing love of nature, the truer, barren, and realistic nature of the Roman countryside and suburbs, led him to become one of the leading exponents of the rustic style.
