About the Item
Raminta's works relates to the human body but not as we are accustomed to seeing it. The newes circle of her works - Monstrare (from Latin, “to show, to demonstrate”) - frames the body as an act of display: an exhibited structure revealed layer by layer.
By exploring the body, the young artist penetrates its deepest strata.
The Monstrare cycle was born from the artist’s long-standing relationship with Gothic literature and fantastic aesthetics. Major influences include Bram Stoker’s Dracula, Joseph Sheridan Le Fanu’s Carmilla, Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein, H. P. Lovecraft’s cosmic horror prose, as well as H. R. Giger’s biomechanical vision and the film Alien (dir. Ridley Scott, 1979), created based on his concepts.
“These works revealed to me essential body symbolisms—between life and death, between the organic and the artificial, between humanity and otherness. Therefore, my painting naturally combines these motifs: red, black, and white dominate the color palette, and the compositions are constructed as if I were assembling fragments of the body itself into a ‘Frankensteinian’ formation composed of different visual layers.”
Raminta S. R. Mint
Raminta S. R. Mint explores the human body as both object and subject, dissecting its forms through painting and aerosol spray. Working with a restrained palette dominated by achromatic tones, she assigns particular significance to red, a color that evokes inner conflict and psychological intensity. Her work transforms the body into a fragmented spectacle - something to be observed, analysed, and interpreted. Employing a process reminiscent of radiology, the artist reveals layers of transparency and depth, achieving a photographic-like effect.
Her practice challenges traditional representations of the body, positioning it as a mirror of contemporary society’s fixation on physicality, visibility, and identity. Her first solo exhibition with Contour Art Gallery, 'Monstrare' (on view January–March 2026), centres on the human body, though not in the form we are accustomed to seeing it. The title derived from the Latin 'monstrare', meaning “to show” or “to demonstrate”—frames the body as an act of display: an exposed structure revealed layer by layer. The exhibition is rooted in the artist’s long-standing engagement with Gothic literature and fantastical aesthetics. Key influences include 'Dracula' by Bram Stoker, Carmilla by Joseph Sheridan Le Fanu, 'Frankenstein' by Mary Shelley, the cosmic horror prose of H. P. Lovecraft, as well as H. R. Giger’s biomechanical vision and Ridley Scott’s 'Alien' (1979), created from Giger’s concepts. As the artist notes: “These works revealed to me important symbolic dimensions of the body—between life and death, organic and artificial, human and alien. This is why my painting naturally connects these motifs: red, black, and white dominate the colour palette, and the compositions are constructed as if assembling bodily fragments into a ‘Frankensteinian’ formation composed of multiple visual layers.” An emerging yet active artist, Raminta is currently pursuing an MA at the Vilnius Academy of Arts, Kaunas Faculty (Lithuania). She has participated in over fifteen group exhibitions, including museum shows, the Alytus Biennale, and finalist selections in prestigious competitions such as the Young Painter Prize.
