About the Item
“Tyson” (2025) by Ritchelly Oliveira: charcoal on canvas, 100 cm diameter (116 cm with frame)
A powerful charcoal portrait with symbolic doves expressing fragility and inner duality. “Tyson’’ is an original 2025 charcoal painting by Ritchelly Oliveira, created on a round canvas measuring 100 cm in diameter, presented in a refined 116 cm custom frame. This work captures a commanding figure at the center, rendered with extraordinary precision, surrounded by softly illuminated doves. In Ritchelly Oliveira’s visual language, birds are a recurring symbol of fragility, vulnerability, and the delicate balance between strength and sensitivity. This contrast lies at the heart of what makes this artwork unique: the dialogue between power and gentleness, conflict and calm.
Ritchelly Oliveira is known for exploring emotional depth through figurative expression, and this piece stands out in his oeuvre for its dramatic tension, exceptional technical execution, and symbolic clarity. The charcoal medium enhances the textures of skin, feathers, and shadow, giving the work a profound sense of presence. Every tonal transition is meticulously crafted, resulting in a piece that feels simultaneously intimate and monumental.
The emotional power of “Tyson’’ also lies in Ritchelly Oliveira’s choice of subject. Mike Tyson is one of the most recognized figures in contemporary culture, celebrated for his unmatched strength yet equally known for the vulnerabilities that shaped his life beyond the ring. By portraying Tyson enveloped by doves, Ritchelly draws attention not only to the athlete’s legendary presence, but also to the complexities that coexist beneath it. The birds seem to rise between his hands like fleeting thoughts or memories, illuminating the internal contradictions of a man who carried both ferocity and tenderness within him.
Ritchelly Oliveira brings this duality to the forefront with a quiet poetry. The doves hover around Tyson’s steady gaze, suggesting an unspoken narrative: the weight of expectation, the battle with one’s own shadows, the fragile moments that rarely make headlines. In this composition, strength is not presented as invincible; instead, it is shown as something deeply human, shaped by wounds, resilience, and transformation. The artist’s mastery lies in capturing this tension without words, allowing charcoal and light to express what biography alone cannot.

Ritchelly Oliveira, visual artist, began his work in 2012, shortly after enter visual arts at the Federal University of Goiás (UFG), he found
human figure a margin to present his speech about what he
understands the deeper aspects of emotional relationships. He works about what he suspects to be love and, believing that this is a universal feeling. Believing that affective relationships are built from the individual and
as their surroundings interfere with them, he tries to rescue the possibility
to construct discourses about love, especially black love. The importance
to reflect together on issues such as sexuality, responsibility
affective and colorism are necessary canons in this invitation to fulfill the ideals
dangerous and exclusionary forms of romantic love that circulate in our environments.
