About the Item
Rodion Petroff (b. 1985) graduated from the Vilnius Academy of Fine Arts and has been exhibiting in Europe and abroad since 2005.
He has had 15 solo exhibitions in Lithuania, Sweden, Germany, was a finalist of the Young Painter Prize three times, and won the Audience Prize of the Biennial of Young European Artists.
Apocalyptic blended cities by Rodion Petroff referring to a memory of our visual experience and sawn views from the past which is on the forgotten edge. The city becomes a metaphor, emerging and dissolving with every twitch of thought, while its characters turn into optical illusions, living solely in our imagination and asking if we are only a momentary reproduction of fantasy in the fictional maze of the world.
The Blend series of paintings, feature opposing interpretations of forms, ranging from strict architectural structures to free and abstract impact of paint. We witness urban mirages with unusually entwined architectural silhouettes and street views that create a dreamlike and nearly surreal atmosphere. Building façades, pediments and domes, as well as tall modern skyscrapers in the background create a dialogue between the city's architecture and history.
A Certificate of Authenticity, signed by the artist and the gallery, is included.
